Post Holiday Prediction: Personal Devices Flood The Workspace

Employees returning from the holiday break will be bringing back with them new digital devices – primarily iPads and Smartphones.  In some cases, they will be bringing in a new laptop, asking if they can connect to the company servers.

IT departments are faced with few alternatives, but to allow these new devices to connect to corporate data repositories.  My advice, don’t fight it.  Embrace these new productivity tools.  Develop tools enabling efficient (and safe) access to information used by all employees.  By developing tools to access information, IT departments can also control access to the content.

Creating the tools, followed up with a solid policy on using equipment not issued by the company, will help keep critical data from falling into the wrong hands.

Another suggestion:  recommend users keep these devices locked down when not in use.  Kensington offers SecureBack™ for tablets, BungeeAir™ for iPhones, and of course ClickSafe® for laptops.
